I rode the Surly from the house. About 3/4 mile out I realized that I hadn’t brought my water bottles. Someone on Facebook was bragging about how well the trail had been cleaned from the flooding, but the city part of the trail is a mess. The mud is a couple of inches deep in several areas and there is a lot of sand on the trail. There is a tree across the trail at El Thrifty Tacos. Just before I reached the Swamp Rabbit Cafe I saw that my Cateye was asleep. I woke it up and saw that it hadn’t started recording. So it missed the first 6 1/4 miles. The county part of the trail has been cleaned fairly well and they have a big blower blowing the debris off the trail. I rode to the north end and turned around and stopped at 3 Oaks Cafe. I had a patty melt with no bun and water. I drank a fair amount of water. I talked with the owner about Steve and he said that Steve had been there with his arm wrapped up.
Coming down the trail was a little exciting. At the Furman crossing, some guy that was bundled up in his Covid protection rode out in front of a car that was running about 35 mph. I yelled "Car! Car, car, car!" But he kept riding and made the car screech to a stop. What an idiot! I thought that I had seen him get hammered, but the driver managed to miss him.
I got off the trail at Washington Street and followed it back to town, then cut across by Don’s, and on to East North Street. I climbed the big hill home. In front of the house I stopped and talked to Jeff and Dottie.
