 Paris Mountain and Sunday Ride
Today I saw Don's invitation to ride out Old Buncombe Road, up the TR side of Paris Mountain, then back to the zoo for the regular Sunday ride. I rode to Don's and sat in the sun with Don and Elissa for a few minutes. DOn had a message that another ride was on his way. I told Don that once we started climbing the mountain to go ahead and leave me. That I would make it to the top, but I am a very slow climber. Chris said that he is a slow climber as well, but when we started climbing he went off the front quickly. Don stayed with me for a while, then he took off to catch Chris. I plodded along and cleared the top of the mountain then stopped for a drink. I headed down the Greenville side then did Piney Mountain at the base of Paris Mountian. I took it to Pleasantburg Drive onto Rutherford Road, then cut through by League Academy to White Oak and took my normal route to the zoo. Cato, Allyn, Jason, and MIchael were there. I asked where Don and CHris were since they were ahead of me. About 3 or 4 minutes later they came rolling in. Don looked surprised when I asked him how I got in ahead of them and he said "Well, we stopped for a hamburger and a beer." They had stopped at Spinx for a Gatorade and snack! We took off from the zoo, but I told Cato that I was only going to the Cafe. I talked with Allyn since I didn't get to meet her last week. We were got to the bridge leaving Cleveland Park I was behind Don who was following an older couple on their bikes. Don suddenly passed them just ahead of the bridge and they were stopped dead in front of me. I had unclipped but couldn't find the ground with my right foot and I nearly went down. We crossed the bridge and I passed them. When we came out of Falls Park Ken caught the group. Don, Ken, and I rode along talking about this and that until we made the Cafe and I said "Goodbye!" and pulled into the cafe. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich with a blueberry scone, and a latte. I got a second scone for Cis and also rought the second half of the sandwich minus one bite home for her as well. WHile I was in the Cafe the older couple came in and she said something about me making it in spite of her wrecking me. I chatted with them at the Cafe before I rode home. When I was nearly home I found a nice set of wire nippers along the curb on East North Street. All in all - a good but odd ride!!
