Ginny has been my priority this week, and that meant doing activities together, but biking together has not been on our agenda. Mostly I've stayed home this week doing chores and that has been fine. There has been much to do with a major project of converting an area in the backyard over to a brick patio 3x the size of the existing deck.
RBC # 352 is a nice flat ride;
This year, 56 miles is a long distance ride for me. Perhaps age is taking its toll?
Riding with Jerry, Bill, and Dave made me the youngster on this group ride. I enjoyed acting the part. This was my first and only bike ride this week. But it has been a good month for me cycling.
The gem of the ride was Jerry's search for "Podunk Road" and his asking an elderly gal for directions.
Out this way, there are many roads without name signs. And some roads have multiple names.
Heading West on E. Shelby Road, it first curves right onto Town Line Road and then curves left onto Podunk Road, neither name change is posted anywhere with a sign. Podunk Road is only a short segment of the E.Shelby Road. Podunk Road ends at a "T" intersection. Turn right, the Road is again named E. Shelby Road. Turn left, the road is Knowlesville Road. It's all clearly indicated on a Google map.
Reaching the intersection first, I await the others to catch up, (Jerry, Bill and Dave all have maps, I don't). Jerry turns right and we all follow. We reached Smith Road, and stopped to reconnoiter.
There was a neat house at the intersection where a trim elderly gal was out doing a chore. So Jerry strikes up a conversation asking her where was Podunk Road. She puzzled for a moment and called out to another person. Another gal who came out of the backyard. The two of them were good looking, 70-80 something y/o, identical twins... My immediate thought was a Volkswagon commercial with elderly gal twins fawning over a young strapping Volks sales representative. It's an entertaining TV commercial... So I said to the two gals before us that I had seen them on the Volkswagon commercial and they are famous. I'm not sure they had seen the commercial but Jerry seemed to know the commercial well.
