 Wandering Ride
Today I took off to get a short meal at the Cafe then ride to the Travelers Rest turnaround and turn out toward Dacusville. I really need to practice those short, but severe hills on that route. I rode to the Cafe and had a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich with a cup of coffee and a snickerdoodle cookie. After refilling my water bottle with cool water I headed up the trail. I hooked up behind a couple that were flying up the trail. I wasn't close enough to get a pull from them, but did use them to pace me for a few miles. I rode to the turnaround point in TR and headed back south. At the Furman's north end I turned toward Dacusville. I followed the route to Old White Horse Road and stopped at a convenience store and bought a Gatorade and refilled my bottle with ice and water. I turned back toward the trail but turned off at a road called River Bend. I know that somewhere in that area is a River Bend Equestrian Park. Sure enough it was on that road but it is now a function of Greenville County Rec. I rode from there to Old White Horse Road again and followed it to White Horse Road. Once to WHR I was lost as to where to go. WHR is a 6 lane highway but I was nowhere close to a known crossing road. I followed it down the highway and found Duncan Road. I turned on it and followed it back to the trail just south of Furman. Once I was back on the trail I realized that I was really whipped. It is odd to be that whipped at 26 miles, but I was still close to 10 miles from home. I rode south to the cafe and stopped for an oatberry shortbread and a glass of sweet tea. They had peach shortbread for over a month this year, but now they're back to oatberry. The cashier asked which I like better, but it's hard to say - they are both so good. The rest of the ride was just tiring, but I am slowly getting my legs back.
