Comments: Bike rides aren't so bad when: you don't have multiple mechanical failures (only 1 event; loose cleat), horrible violently gusty winds (building wind from changing directions; 5-10mph), no rain when 0% forecast, shitty pavement. Very nice early morning, but got VERY crowded by 0830, cockblocked 5 times. Knees were sore but not completely cooked by end. 1,200 vertical

Comments: Now standard Chatfield ride but 1st ride on new cheapass Chinese carbon wheels. Wind was all over the place, low wind, no wind, exponential headwind on last lap. After initial front wheel issue, no mechanical issues after that. Knees weren't perfect but not bad at all. Wheels were definitely much smoother at 90psi. 1,200 vertical.

Comments: Was it the new carbon wheels or the waffles? ;-P 2nd ride on carbon wheels, rode a little harder than on Wed. Wind, more wind, then less wind, maybe similar to Wed? Right knee hurt more after the ride than during. Only 1 cockblock during ride, 1,200 vertical.

Comments: OK, maybe the carbon wheels aren't fast as I thought, but still smoother. Different bike (CA2), different pedals (Look), different wheels (Reynolds AL), different wind (0-8 N), but almost identical speed. Lack of headwind up the Cols du Sud probably helped alot. can't really explain sudden increas in speed, knees were still tweaky near end. 1,200 vertical

Comments: Littleton/Chatfield/Liitleton ride on CA2, only 1100 vertical but sure felt like much more with the swirling headwind. No wind in Littleton, but dead headwind up the Cols Du Sud. 6 cockblocks, and took it VERY easy on trail and thru neighborhood. Garmin registered my 2 walks for pee stops...grrr. Right knee had dull/sharp pain almost entire ride, especially at end. Maybe 3 - 50+ mile ride in 5 days is too many for my knees?

Comments: Chatfield Ride and a hazy (forest fires) cool morning (57-65F), AQ was 50-60, moderate, but not bad. Wind 5-10S from the start, but 2nd lap diminished, then switched on 3rd lap. Had to manage right knee entire ride, but hurt most after ride was over. 1,250 vertical (2 Col du Norde, 2.5 Cols du Sud). 3 cockblocks

Comments: Chatfield ride started right at dawn (0617) cause I'd been awake since 0300. Cockblocked 7 times including 200ft from start of ride, pulling out of parking lot..grrr. PR for the 1st 15 miles up the Cols Du Sud (19.6mph), but then added back side of dam, 3 more cockblocks, then sharply increasing headwind up Cols Du Sud on 2nd lap. 1st lap on top of dam had pure crosswind, had to lean into the crosswind. I got VERY nervous hitting near 40mph on the steep downhill. I swear I never did feel a tailwind, only cross and headwinds. Wind shifted from SE, then S, then SW, then W. Knees were pretty much fully cooked by end, the headwind just kills them. Most vertical in a while, 1300'.

Comments: Another Chatfield ride on a smoky (AQ:65) cool, hazy, but warming morning. Set a PR for 1st 15 miles: 19.6 mph, and overall avg; 20.25mph. Knees were almost fully cooked by end. Wind was 0-12mph from multiple, shifting directions. Still having a HELL of a time unclipping from Look pedals, feet come out of shoes before cleats release. Cockblocked only 3 times, 1200' vert

Comments: Chatfield ride again on slightly less putridly smoggy morning with increasing headwind. Set another PR for 1st 15 miles, 20.1 mph avg, but knees got tender then headwind kicked up, 1st I ever lost speed after 1st lap. 3 cockblocks, minor stomch issue at 25 miles. AQ: 72-80 PM2.5, 1'100 vert

Comments: Well that ride SUCKED!! Cleanest air in 3 weeks, but everything else sucked... pavement, people, wind (at top), and especially my right knee. Sore from mile 35 to bitter end, even worse after I got home. 1,000' vertical. Top of Cols du Sud has RAGING wind (15-20+ from SW) so every foot of climbing was dead into the headwind, but much less in protected valleys. Took it relatively easy after knee began to ache and cockblocked like crazy on the trail back to the car. May not ever ride that again, not sure. Felt like I was riding into the sun for 2.5 hrs, screaming headache between the glaring sun and super shitty pavement at end.

Comments: Waterton ride with Jim, on a warming, but relatively clear air morning with tailwind up the canyon!! Fastest ride up and down. Only a few bighorn sheep, but nice ride overall. Knees were sore at start but got better as ride went, even made the steep section.

Comments: Well that ride mostly sucked! Weather forecast fucked me over yet again: forecast was 53F with 1 mph wind, turned out to be 44F, with 15-25mph wind on 2nd lap. How badly can you fuck it up, really??!! Wind was probably 8-12mph from S on the 1st, 15-25mph from SE on 2nd, 10-15mph from ESE on 3rd. Probably windiest this year, definitely on new carbon wheels. Right knee had dull ache from mile 3, but could be from cold air, headwind and 8 miles of Cols Du Sud from start. Bit right knee ended up ok by end, much better than last road ride. Aug was PR for most miles in a month, ever.
